Message from the Director

There, it has grown.

When I saw Naoki Sato’s drawings at his exhibition “Ogikubo Undiscovered”at Rokujigen, the energy that rose from those plants sent my head spinning.
Every time I see the assemblage of this work that has continued since that time, I absorb strength from the image of those monochromatic plants.
This drawing of plants, drawn from a tool (charcoal) that itself is made of plants, delicately unearths the power of plants that I take in daily.
Further, a secret belonging to the plants born long before human beings is hidden within.
Scattering their seeds through the air, these plants are fulfilling a purpose to“grow there”.
“There”could suggest our environment, nation, locality or even blood relations.
The concept of place and life brings to mind a certain fate. Here, at 3331 Arts Chiyoda, signs of life rustle to the surface.
